Richard King, our "Limnologist" (a scientist who specializes in the study of lakes, and their aquatic environment), has copied
the beds observed by Eicher in 2004 onto the "standard" map format we are now using.
(This map format will
be updated in 2008, and volunteers are needed to help with depth soundings and coordinates. Please contact the
Lake Luzerne
Association if you would like to volunteer for this activity.)
In 2005 and 2006 the milfoil beds increased dramatically.
Many areas of shoreline showed milfoil for the first time, and the entire south end of the lake was severly impacted. No surveys
were done in those years, however, to establish an accurate quantification.
Significantly however, the Town Council toured
the south-end by boat, and was very disturbed by the extent of the problem. The Adirondack Park Agency toured this part
of the lake as well, and observed a large number of beds.
It seems correct to state that the south end was infested
with Milfoil in 2006.
